Party in the Park team announce Jubilee plans - 16th Jan '12 E-mail

Peasedown St John has become one of the first villages in north east Somerset to announce some of its plans for this year’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

After three successful village festivals, the organisers of Peasedown's Party in the Park are doing things a little differently this year.

To celebrate The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, they’re holding Party in the Park on Monday 4th June. This will be part of a four-day national holiday, celebrated all over the world.

Local B&NES Councillor Nathan Hartley will be heading up the team as Festival Chairman. He said:

“Jubilee Party in the Park 2012 won’t be just another annual event – but the first of its kind since 1897. It’s been 115 years since our country has celebrated the diamond jubilee of a Head of State.

To capture the patriot spirit this year, thanks to both the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics, we’re moving our summer festival to June. We want to ensure that Peasedown St John doesn’t miss out.

Our 7 hour event will include live music, hot food, a look back at Peasedown in the 1950’s, a giant family picnic, the Sara Holley Community Award and much more.”

Since the village’s first Party in the Park in 2009 over £1,500 has been donated to community groups, up to 3,000 people attend each year, and the event has been recognised at the Community Awards, and Somerset Guardian’s People of the Year Awards.

Jerry Curd, from Hungry Earth Productions, is the newest recruit to the organising team. Having spent years recording and playing music, and travelling around the world producing TV programmes, he is now looking for local bands and performers to take part in Jubilee celebtrations. He commented:

“For the last three years, some of our most popular local bands have made a name for themselves at Party in the Park. This year will be no different.

We’re looking for a range of performances from 1950’s classical to the R ‘n’B era of the 1990’s. Preference will be given to bands who can tailor their style to a particular era from the last 60 years.”
