| Call for Repeal of Anti-Protest Law |

The Lib Dem Shadow Home Secretary, Mark Oaten MP, has tabled an Early Day Motion calling on the government to repeal the new anti-protest powers that led to the prosecution of Ms Maya Evans. Ms Evans stood outside Downing Street reading a list of British soldiers killed in Iraq and was convicted under the law which bans unauthorized demonstrations within one kilometer of Westminster. She was found guilty of breaching section 132 of the Serious Organized Crime and Police Act of 2005. "The arrest and prosecution of Maya Evans is an affront to free speech, the right to protest and the traditions of this country," said Mark. "This is yet another example of the government riding rough shot over our hard one liberties. The government must take the earliest opportunity to repeal these powers before more people are caught by this draconion legislation."
