A popular community church in Peasedown St John has received financial support to purchase a brand new hot water boiler, thanks to a Councillor. Peasedown St John Methodist Church, which is located in the centre of the village on Bath Road, was awarded £500 from Cllr Nathan Hartley’s Councillor Initiative Fund. The church was in need of a new hot water boiler for the kitchen. As the building is used by large numbers of people each week, the purchase of a new boiler was a worth while investment. Methodist Church Minister, Revd Michelle Ireland commented: “Each week, our church building is used for community use, toddler groups, drug support networks, youth work, our Lunch Club and outreach events like Saturday morning coffee, and the recent Golden Years’ Holiday Club. Some weeks during the year can see hundreds of people use our building, with the kitchen facilities in high demand. We’ve needed a new hot water boiler for some time and the church family is really pleased that Cllr Hartley has awarded us funding.” Local Councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib Dem, Peasedown) said: “I was pleased to be able to give financial support to the Methodist Church when they approached me earlier in the year. Any organisation that does the type of work the Methodist Church does needs all the support it can get. Its values of caring for others and service to the community should be applauded, and they are principles I certainly try to follow in my work to make Peasedown St John a better place. I do hope the new hot water boiler is well used and serves thousands of hot drinks in its time.” Each year B&NES Councillors are allocated funding to spend in their wards. Cllr Hartley was earmarked £4,000 for 2010/11. His colleague Councillor Sarah Bevan (Lib Dem, Peasedown) was allocated £4,000 in 2009/10.
