Local Councillors Sarah Bevan and Nathan Hartley have welcomed a move by B&NES Council to carry out a full review of winter maintenance and gritting around Peasedown St John. Earlier in the year, the area was with heavy snow and severe ice, leaving many people stranded. Nathan said: “In January, people were left stranded due to heavy snowfall when much of the UK ground to a halt. Residents from all over Peasedown, Carlingcott and Braysdown contacted us to say that the Council hadn’t been to grit their roads and as a result couldn’t go out. Unfortunately, under current B&NES Council guidelines, only certain roads are considered a priority.” Cllr Sarah Bevan added: "Residents in Carlingcott felt let down when they were told that their area wasn't a priority, despite all five access routes involving a gradient of some kind". Now, following calls from the Lib Dems, the Council has agreed to carry out a full review of winter maintenance in the next few months. Pressure from the Councillors has also led to two of the worst affected roads, Eckweek Gardens and Wellow Mead, being earmarked for complete resurfacing during the summer.
