Cllr filmed for Parliamentary charity event - 28/3/10 E-mail

Cllr Sarah Bevan was invited to take part last week in the first ever election broadcast generated entirely by the public.

The education charity Edge, which campaigns for more a practical and vocational emphasis in our school curricula, filmed Cllr Bevan at home and in the House of Commons, giving her an opportunity to voice her disquiet over the 'one size fits all' nature of today's education.

Sarah said:

'Not all of us are suited to a purely academic style education. Education in its purest sense means 'a leading out', an exploration of what the world can teach us, not a narrow set of examined facts, designed to put schools high up in the league tables. I'd like to see a shadowing system with local businesses from primary school age onwards, so children and young people learn about the working world from a young age.'

The event in the House of Commons last week featured MPs from all parties who all gave their support to the charity's aims.
