Two sisters from Peasedown St John are going more than the extra mile next week to raise money for Sport Relief. Sophie and Katie Madams have decided to undertake a 30mile walk from Peasedown St John to Weston-super-Mare over two days. Sophie, aged 17, who is currently studying childcare at Norton-Radstock College, said she wanted to do something different this year: “Not many people do thirty-mile walks these days, and I wanted to make sure that what I did for Sport Relief would be worthwhile. The walk itself will be a challenge, but it’ll be worth it in the end.” So far, the pair have raised around £100 but are keen to get as much as possible. Katie, aged 16, is a member of the award winning Peasedown Youth Community Council. She added: “All the money we raise goes to transforming people lives in this country and abroad. It will help with simple things such as providing clean water, buying mosquito nets and paying for a child to be educated. In this country too it will go towards funding community projects that bring people together, and supporting vulnerable elderly people get out and about.”
Supporting the pair is Peasedown Councillor Nathan Hartley. He said: “I didn’t have to think twice about sponsoring Sophie and Katie when they asked me. Walking 30miles is certainly something that should be applauded, and I do encourage others to support them if they have not done so already. Sport Relief funds some amazing and literally life-saving projects all over the world. So many people in places life Africa and South America would do anything to have the things that we take for granted on a daily basis - like free access to healthcare and a free education. Please support Sophie and Katie and make a difference!” To sponsor Sophie or Katie, either of them can be contacted by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
