Make a difference this summer - 17th Jan '10 E-mail

The organisers of Peasedown St John’s summer festival are seeking help this year and looking for people to volunteer as stewards.

Last year saw the first annual Party in the Park in Peasedown St John. This was a great success attracting 1,500 people who enjoyed stalls, sideshows and live music. It raised over £2,000, which has been reinvested into local groups and future community events.

Party in the Park 2009 also won runner-up Community Event of the Year in the Somerset Guardian’s People of the Year Awards 2009.

Organisers are now working hard, planning and preparing for this year’s event.

They are currently looking for 60 stewards to help ensure that the day runs smoothly and that all visitors have as much fun as possible.

Party in the Park Stewarding Manager Jo Curd said:

“Could your family, club, church, business or organisation help? This role is an essential part of the event, a great way to work with family, friends or colleagues and an excellent way to contribute to your community.

The role of a steward is extremely important, contributing to safety, fun and enjoyment of all. Tasks will include receiving entrance money, ensuring that the venue is kept clean and litter free, and that the police and medical team are kept informed and updated of any incidents.”

Volunteers will be offered training and support prior to and throughout the event. They will also have the opportunity to receive a certificate which thanks them for their support and will be helpful in securing employment or positions elsewhere.  Although volunteer stewards must be aged 18 and over, younger volunteers can help with other tasks. Stewards will be provided with a high-vis jacket to wear and asked to work for 2 hour shifts between 11am-8pm.

Full briefings and details will be given to anyone interested in taking part.

This year’s event will be on Beacon Field from midday until 8pm on Saturday 17th July.
