The organisers of Peasedown St John’s summer festival are seeking residents’ views on the future of the event.
Party in the Park, which is held in July on Beacon Field, attracted over 1,500 people last year – making it the villages’ most successful event in over 15 years. Because of the event’s success, and the positive feedback received, the Management Committee has started to organise next year’s event - with plans to make it bigger and better. However, in order for organisers to plan a bigger annual event they are required by B&NES Council to apply for a Premises Licence. In practice, this is not much different from the Temporary Event Notice applied for last year. The main difference being that more than 499 people can be on Beacon Field at any one time (the field’s total capacity is 2,000). Chairman of the Management Committee is local Councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib Dem). He said:
“As part of our Premises Licence application, we are asking the Council if we can have more than 499 people on the Beacon Field at any one time, for permission to have live music on site, and to be able to sell alcohol. These elements of our application are not much different from last year. The main benefit of the Licence is we can hold it for several years without having to reapply each year.”
The Management Committee will be asking B&NES for permission to be able to hold events on the field no more than 3 weekends per year. Cllr Hartley added: “Party in the Park will only happen once a year, but in future years we would then have the flexibility to run other community events with the licence.”
Peasedown resident Joy Fraser is the Committee’s Treasurer. She commented: “The terms of licence will require us to work with local police and other agencies, to use trained security staff and to have adequate numbers of stewards and to provide a safe environment for children at a community family focused event. The Management Committee take these responsibilities seriously and before we submit our application to the Council we would like to know what residents think, particularly if they have any concerns with our application.” The organisers will submit the application in January. Any comments from Peasedown residents should be received before January 15th.
