Re Local residents, including school children with their deputy head teacher Chris Marshall, scouts and transition group fans will be arriving to plant 25 or more trees in the local play park, Beacon Field in French Close, Peasedown St John, which has plenty of space for more trees and ornamental planting. Residents will see a banner provided by the BBC to help them find the exact spot for planting. The event will take place on Saturday, 5 December, 11 am - 12 midday, Beacon Field, French Close. Cllr Bevan said: "I was keen to plant trees which bear fruit around the village as part of the change in the council's municipal planting policy to provide free food through its choice of public planting schemes. It was very fortunate that the BBC was organising this event at around the same time, and even more fortunate that it all coincides with National Tree Week. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone - provided they bring a spade of course!' National Tree Week started on Wednesday 24 November and finishes on Saturday 5 December to allow for the Tree O'Clock world record attempt. Species of food bearing trees to be planted on the Peasedown site include bramley apples, quince, cherry, hazel and pear. Bath and North East Somerset council has other sites joining the record attempt. Details can be found on the website bbc.co.uk/treeoclock. Verification will be needed for the events, including witness statements from public notaries and photographic evidence. Nature Notes will be provided free of charge by the BBC on the day. Cllr Bevan added: "This space will be a very special kind of ornamental orchard for the enjoyment of many local residents and visitors for a long time to come, and it's also thanks to our tree specialists at Bath and North East Somerset Council that the event came together at just the right time."
