Peasedown community group give money to village - 3rd Nov '09 E-mail

A community project that has achieved record success in its first twelve months has decided to reinvest some of its funding back into the local area.

Peasedown St John based initiative ‘Party in the Park’ is the village’s new annual summer event which takes place during July.

Due to the success of the first event this year, which was opened by Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis, over £2,000 was raised.

The majority of the money will go towards funding Party in the Park 2010, but the organisers have set a small sum aside to reinvest back into the village in the form of small financial grants.

A member of the Party in the Park Management Committee is Bridie Marshall. She said:

“When a group of us got together a year ago to plan and prepare the first Party in the Park we decided that no matter how much money we raised we’d like to give some of it back to the community.

This is our way of thanking residents for supporting the first festival in July, and aiding other community groups in Peasedown St John.”

To qualify for a Party in the Park Grant, applicants must be part of an organisation based within Peasedown St John. The organisation should be not-for-profit or a registered charitable trust.

Joy Fraser, who is the group’s Treasurer, said:

“All the members of the Management Committee have a strong sense of pride in Peasedown St John. We believe passionately in supporting the community at a grassroots level.

Therefore, as well as just organising a large summer event each year we also want to do things for the community all year round.

We really do hope that the money we are giving away will be a benefit to the successful applicants.”

The closing date for applications is 30th November. All interested applicants can contact Joy Fraser for more information and an application form: 01761  433644, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
