Party planning begins - 24th Oct '09 E-mail

Organisers in Peasedown St John have now met to start planning next year’s Party in the Park event in the village.

Hoping to make the event an annual spectacle in the local calendar, planners are building on the success of the first Party in the Park – which took place in July of this year.

Due to the support of local businesses, residents and visitors almost 1,500 people came to Party in the Park 2009 where Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis officially opened the party.

During the event, over £2,000 was raised.Supported by Bath and North East Somerset Council, Party in the Park 2010 will be held on Beacon Field, and in Beacon Hall on July 17th from 12noon-8pm. Plans include live music, traditional fete stalls and other attractions.

Local resident and businesswomen Karen Walker is a member of the Management Committee, and will be overseeing all the event’s bookings.

She said:

“We were overwhelmed last year with positive feedback after the event. All those that came really enjoyed themselves and hoped Party in the Park would happen every year.

One of our key aims of Party in the Park 2009 was to build community spirit and bring people together. We certainly think this was achieved – so many people said they saw people they’d not seen in years, and we believe the crowds that flocked to the event were the largest seen in the village since the early 1990’s.”
