| Mysterious dozen - call for information on twelve red poles on the A367 - 11th Oct 09 |

Despite the recent removal of redundant and rusty poles from Peasedown St John, local Councillor Sarah Bevan was surprised to find 12 new ones scattered along the A367.
Enquiries among Highways officers yielded no clues as to what the poles are for and who erected them.
The poles have been installed between Radstock and Dunkerton Hill on the A367. Some are in pairs, some single. Some have been placed next to existing signage for motorists with no apparent need for further instructions for drivers.
Cllr Bevan said:
"Having recently worked with officers to organise the removal of six unsightly and unnecessary poles, I was amazed to wake up one morning and find so many new ones dotted along this road. Even less satisfactory is their colour - red is out of keeping with all the other poles and certainly does not blend in with the rural nature of the area. It is extraordinary that none of the officers who would normally be responsible for such measures have any knowledge of them."
Cllr Bevan and local residents would welcome any information about their provenance and their purpose.
