Peasedown youngsters given a say - 18th Sep '09 E-mail

Young people in Peasedown St John will be given the chance to have their say and share concerns about their local area at the next meeting of the Youth Community Council on Wednesday 30th September.

The meeting is open to all young people of secondary school age living in Peasedown, and is an opportunity for them to chat with local politicians and have a say in some of the decisions that affect community life.

Local Councillor Nathan Hartley, who helped found the group over two years ago, said:

“It is really important that young people, the leaders of tomorrow, are consulted and asked about their views.

When I was a teenager, I hated nothing more that feeling as if my view did not count and no one would take me seriously.

Youth democracy was a key influence in my early years. I just hope I can encourage young people today to be inspired in the same way.”

Members of the youth council are currently involved with plans to set up a community farm in Peasedown and have been busy developing their own allotment area in the youth centre grounds.

The meeting will start at 7pm in Peasedown Youth Centre, and will include drinks, crisps and snacks.
