Final preparations are now underway for one of the biggest events on the calendar in Peasedown St John.

The highly anticipated Party in the Park, which will be held in the village on Saturday 18th July, has kept organisers busy since last year.

Thanks to the support of local businesses and organisations almost £3,000 has been raised in sponsorship to ensure the event is as good as it possibly can be.

Final preparations: Management Committee members, event staff and local residents at the last Party in the Park planning meeting.

Chairing the Management Committee has been local B&NES Councillor Nathan Hartley who says the event has been arranged to restore a sense of pride in the community:

“As every year we see community sprit fade away and more people unaware of who their neighbours are, this event really is about trying to make a difference.

Other areas already have well established summer fetes such as the Keynsham Music Festival and the Wellow Flower Show. Peasedown St John though, up until this summer, has not had an equivalent event.

Party in the Park 2009 will feature live bands, family entertainment, a hog roast, traditional fete fun and games and we are extremely lucky to have Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis opening the event for us at midday.”

Parking at the event is limited to event staff and stall holders, so visitors need to make every effort to walk to the event.

Many of the attractions lined up include a farmers market, face painting, sumo wrestling, plate-smashing and dozens of community stalls.

Live musical acts include The Renegades, Jason Cronin, Metson, Simeon, The Inbredz, The Ultimate Blues Brothers and the Obnoxious Toddlers.Bath FM will be broadcasting live from the event.

Prizes to be one on the day include a flight for four people in a Cherokee Six light aircraft over the city of Bath (worth £150), a meal for two at the Royal Crescent Hotel (worth £100) and an Off-Road Driving Experience at Mercedes World (worth £110).

Entry to the day part of the event is free (12noon-6pm). Entry to the evening part of the event to watch the Ultimate Blues Brothers is by ticket only (contact Karen Walker – 01761 300685 for more information).

The Party in the Park will be held on Beacon Field, and in Beacon Hall, on July 18th.
