Residents in Bath and North East Somerset are being given the chance to find out more about being a local councillor. This Friday night, the Liberal Democrats will be holding an informal information evening about life as a councillor and for people who are interested in standing as party candidates at the next local elections. Cllr Sarah Bevan, the Vice Chair of B&NES Council, has been a councillor in Peasedown St John since 2003. She said: “Being a local councillor is the most exhilarating job I've ever done. It is quite literally life-enhancing, not just for me, but for all those local people who have approached me over the years with all their many and varied issues and contributions. The role of local councillor really does enable me to make a difference to people's quality of life." The Liberal Democrats currently hold 26 seats on Bath & North East Somerset Council. They are the main opposition to the ruling Conservative group of 31 councillors. The other eight seats on the Council are made up of five Labour councillors and three independents. The information evening will be held in the Guildhall Bath, at 7pm on Friday 19th June. Any readers who are interested and would like to attend should contact Jennifer Pack in the B&NES Lib Dem office: 01225 477419.
