Well known Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik will be paying a special visit to Peasedown St John next week. As the party’s Business and Enterprise spokesperson he will be answering a wide range of questions on the Lib Dem plans to regenerate the economy through investment in British Business. Lembit is a likeable and entertaining speaker. He has been the MP for Montgomeryshire since 1997 and was re-elected in 2005 with 50% of the vote in his constituency. Gail Coleshill, the Parliamentary Spokesperson for North East Somerset Lib Dems, commented on his visit: “Here in North East Somerset, there are big issues with the economy in rural areas. Supporting small businesses in the area south of Bath is very important and Lembit fully supports Don Foster’s call for the automatic payment of small business rate relief. He will also be outlining the Lib Dems plans to invest in British Business. The ‘Meet Lembit’ event is being hosted by local Councillors Sarah Bevan and Nathan Hartley. Sarah said: “Lembit’s visit adds to the growing list of high-profile Liberal Democrats who have visited Peasedown in the last few years. In 2007 Simon Hughes MP visited the village and just last year Baroness Ros Scott came and spoke to local members.” Lembit will be leading a question and answer session on Friday 1st May 2009 at St John's Church Hall, Church Road, Peasedown St John.
