The first of many new measures on the Peasedown by-pass to improve safety are nearing completion. The 2 pedestrian islands are designed to halt the domination of traffic over residents, and will go some way to compensating residents for the interruption of a much used bridle path, through which the by-pass was built.
Sarah and Nathan with residents, next to one of the new pedestrian refuges. The measures include the 2 refuges for walkers, reduced speed limits from 60 mph to 50 and down to 40 on the continuation of the A367 past Clandown, slip roads at major incident junctions, resin based coloured road surfaces and 'Think Bike!' signs at other sensitive locations. The new safety measures will extend beyond Peasedown in both directions along the A367 as far as Radstock to the south, and Dunkerton to the east and include junction warning signs along the by-pass to alert motorists to the junctions with Orchard Way, a major road through the new estate. Cllr Bevan said: "I and the residents have been calling for these improvements for some time, so I am pleased we have been taken seriously. There have been 17 accidents on the by-pass alone over the past 3 years so it is money well spent. Although the new businesses now established in the business park are welcomed, it is important that residents' quality of life is not compromised by increasing traffic along this route."
