PLANS FOR Peasedown St John’s Big Clean Up were unveiled last week at a local Youth Community Council meeting. Young people from the Youth Centre will be taking part in the national Big Clean Up initiative next week in a bid to give something back to their community. Working with the group is local Councillor Nathan Hartley, who has been liaising with B&NES Council officers to organise the clean up. He commented: “The Big Clean Up is a national initiative to promote social and community action. Often I find that people want to make a difference in their neighbourhood – but need a bit of encouragement and support to do it. Our Big Clean Up in Peasedown St John next week will offer residents the chance to have unwanted household items taken away and litter picking carried out.I am so pleased that our Youth Community Council have volunteered to get involved with this initiative. Too often young people are tarred with being anti-social and not interested in the bigger picture – this act of community spirit shows they are far from that.” Peasedown’s Big Clean Up will take place in two housing estates over the Easter holidays. Residents living in these areas will receive an information leaflet before the event giving them further details.
