‘Planting for Peasedown’ is being organised by local Councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib Dem, Peasedown) who got the inspiration for the event following a PACT meeting last year where villagers told police and politicians that ‘lack of morale in local area’ was one of their key concerns. Nathan said:

“It is upsetting for anyone to hear that people feel unhappy living in their community. In an age where community spirit seems to dwindle and fade it is really important that opportunities are given to bring people together and meet one another.

All other the country tree planting initiatives are being used as great examples of bridging community divides. Tree planting is something for all ages, people of all backgrounds, it gives people a sense of pride in their community and it’s good for the environment and wildlife.”

Cllr Hartley is working with B&NES Council and the newly established campaign group – More Trees for Bath and North East Somerset. Members of the group will be on hand to help residents plant 100 trees near the Bath Road/A367 junction where the popular Heidi the Hippy Pig used to reside.

Planting for Peasedown, which will coincide with National Tree Week, will take place on Saturday 29th November 2008, starting from 9am. All planters will need to bring a spade and wrap up warm!
