Safety campaign takes shape in New Buildings! - 17th Nov '07 E-mail

Residents in New Buildings, Peasedown St John are celebrating this week. Their fears for their children and pets' safety are now at an end after the installation of advisory 20 mph speed signs at a strategic point in their area.

Jason Wilber said:

'We are very pleased and grateful to our local councillors who responded magnificently to our plea for better safety measures here. All we need now is another sign at the other end of our village to warn drivers entering from the main roads'.

Cllr Bevan ran the campaign with the help of a residents' petition to Bath and North East Somerset council Highways service.

She added:

'This campaign demonstrates that residents and councillors together can achieve good things for communities. I have also worked with other residents on the new estate to achieve a 20 mph limit where children and pets play and am looking forward to extending this essential road safety campaign elsewhere in my ward'.

Liberals Democrats across Bath and North East Somerset are campaigning to make every residential street a 20mph speed limit area.

Cllr Hartley commented:

'We believe that drivers reducing their speed to 20mph will see fewer deaths and accidents on the road, a reduction in pollution and a healthier living environment, and an increase in public transport use as opposed to private car use.'
