6th October 2007

Dear Editor,

I decided to enter politics because I wanted to make a difference, to help improve people’s quality of life and help people make the most of life in our community.

One of the great things about Peasedown St John is that we have such a wide range of people – which together enrich our experiences of living here.

Such a wide range means though that we must do the very best we can to cater for everybody’s needs and wants. Yes, sometimes what one group wants may upset another and vice-versa – but whoever said that life wasn’t about taking risks, making sacrifices and giving things a try at least once?

Quite recently a small number of people have attacked me both publicly and privately due to my efforts in investing in more facilities for young people – in particularly a BMX bike track on the recreation field.

I agree that a BMX Bike Track will not solve all our problems but it is certainly a positive step in the right direction.

Also, for the record my campaign has never been about me or any credit I may get from it but it’s about the young people of Peasedown St John that feel invalid, neglected and need more facilities to channel their energy and skills in a positive light.

This Saturday, 13th October, Peasedown Youth Club will be holding an Open Morning (10.30am-12.30pm) to raise the profile of the campaign. The local Police and youth service, who are both 100% committed to this project, will be there. The plans will be on display along with a video produced by the young people of why they want a BMX track.

I would encourage as many residents to come along as possible. Decisions are best made when we, as a community, work together.

Yours faithfully,

   Nathan
