Head Teacher thrilled at timely response to danegerous school crossing at Peasedown - 12th Sep 07 E-mail
Staff and parents have praised local Councillor Sarah Bevan for acting immediately to get modifications on the hitherto dangerous school pedestrian crossing during the summer holidays.
Shortly before the end of last school term, a child had to be pulled out of the path of oncoming traffic due to a design fault on the crossing. The pedestrian refuge and other objects in the middle of the crossing meant that traffic failed to stop in both directions while children walked from one side of the road to the other.
Cllr Bevan held an immediate site meeting with the newly appointed traffic and safety officer from Bath and North East Somerset Council to observe driver behaviour, and to hear what the patrol officer had to say about the incident which left parents and children very shaken and anxious about recurrences.
Head Teacher David Tilling said:
"We are delighted and very grateful for Cllr Bevan's lightening response to this issue, which ensures we now have a much safer route to school for children. A message has been included in this week's School News to reassure parents about the reasons for these very necessary changes to our crossing."
