Results just in from research carried out over the summer by Peasedown St John's Liberal Democrat councillors Nathan Hartley and Sarah Bevan shows that more bus services and facilities would encourage vast numbers of local people to use their cars less and buses more.

The findings came as part of a huge public consultation carried out by the councillors during the summer to find out residents' views concerning public transport through the new estate, specifically on Orchard Way, the main arterial road in the area.
1,000 residents received a colour survey to complete, delivered by hand and analysed personally. Of these, a whopping 62% ticked the box indicating that they would abandon their cars if there were more frequent services to take them to work and play throughout the day.
Cllr Hartley said:
"One of our pledges to residents leading up to the May local elections was to work towards a more regular, more frequent and more convenient bus service around the new estate in Peasedown. There are currently a meagre two services from Orchard Way per day, compared to up to fifteen buses an hour on the other side of the village".
Cllr Bevan added:
"Our consultation was very wide-reaching, and included detailed questions on exact preferred destinations, timings, Diamond Card entitlement and Ring and Ride entitlement. We are convinced that a result like this indicates very strongly that our next move must be to approach FirstBus bosses again and council transport officers to get a better service for local people, and help solve the area's congestion and air quality problems into the bargain."
