'We shouldn't put up with second best' E-mail

Dear Editor,

Through your letters pages I would like to thank the many residents of Peasedown St John who have supported me in my campaign to make our village a graffiti-free-zone.Their response has been amazing with endless phone calls and emails.

I started the campaign last summer because I was fed up with seeing my neighbourhood, the place I have called ‘home’ all my life, look like a mess.Because much of the graffiti had been around for so long many people had become used to it and came to accept it as ‘part and parcel’ of the place in which we live. It doesn’t have to be that way! We shouldn’t have to live in a place that we cannot be proud of. When others ask us where we live, when we reply ‘Peasedown’ we want a smile to be brought to their faces – nothing else. Often at times many of us accept second best – we shouldn’t.I want the people of Peasedown to feel proud of where they live. I want local people to receive the first class services that we are entitled to. The campaign is almost complete, much of the graffiti has gone and many more residents have smiles on their faces. Thank you! We’re almost there. Yours Faithfully, Nathan Hartley
