"Climate chaos is a reality. The earth is heating up, the climate around us is changing rapidly and we are the ones who can make the difference. If every household saved 20% of their energy daily the UK would be on target to meet our Kyoto commitment by 2012."

Want to save your 20%? Here are 10 ideas to help:

  1. Turn your thermostat down by 1ºC. This cuts heating bills by 10%.
  2. Water too hot? Your cylinder thermostat shouldn't need to be set higher than 60ºC/140ºF.
  3. Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through the windows.
  4. Always turn off the lights when you leave a room.
  5. Don't leave appliances on standby.
  6. If you're not filling up the washing machine use the half-load or economy programme.
  7. Only boil as much water as you need.
  8. Fix leaking hot water taps. In one week they can waste enough hot water to fill half a bath.
  9. Replace light bulbs with energy saving ones. Just one can reduce lighting costs by £100 - and they last up to 12 times longer than ordinary light bulbs.
  10. Go to our web-site to connect to a home energy check link. Answer some questions and you’ll receive a report telling you how you can save £300 a year on your energy bills.
