Children at a local primary school are well versed in the art of democratic action, and added to their awareness of local democracy by inviting their local councillor along to discuss with the children the role of the councillor.
Cllr Sarah Bevan said: "This school takes a very active part in learning about the meaning of democracy. The school council recently voted to use money saved by recycling measures to improve their playground. I hope to extend that learning by listening to and participating in the children's discussions about my role as a councillor in the wider community". The school also has a 'green team' of pupils who regularly check that computers are not left on overnight and that recyclable goods are put to good use. Their awareness of the impact of such actions on their school, the wider community, and the world at large is a very acute one. Head Teacher David Tilling said: "We are very pleased to welcome once again our local councillor in to the school to enhance our children's learning on this subject. Our school council is active all the time as part of the way the school operates, and took part earlier this year in the schools parliament event, at which Don Foster MP took an active interest in all our children's achievements in this field."
